Update from Bury St Edmunds Town branch of the Bury St Edmunds Constituency Conservative Association
It's been 3 months since we took the first brave steps towards launching our new Bury Town Conservative branch, and we have seen the numbers grow steadily over the last few meetings.
You may remember we wanted our new branch to be more than just a fundraising group, and to that end we have had speakers (Deborah Cadman Chief Executive of Suffolk County Council) and outside visits (Denny Brothers factory visit), that I hope those of you that attended found interesting and informative. We are now working on a programme of events for the coming year, and we would love to hear from you with ideas of what you would find interesting, please email suggestions to [email protected]
We will continue to have bi-monthly meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of every second month, with the next one being the official "launch" event for our new branch. This event will be on Tuesday 6th November at The Brewery Tap in the grounds of Greene King. Tickets will be £15 each and will include a delicious cold buffet supper and your first drink, after which there will be a paid bar. We do hope you will be able to join us to celebrate our new branch, and please feel free to invite guests who may be interested in joining - the more the merrier! We are also delighted that Tim Passmore, the Conservative candidate for Police and Crime Commisioner, has agreed to be our speaker on that evening.
To book your place please email [email protected], or send a cheque made out to Bury St Edmunds Conservatives to Diane Everitt, Treasurer, 17 Barn Lane, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 1YH.
There are several BIG changes that will affect us all over the coming months; one of the most important for the future of Bury St Edmunds is St Edmundsbury Borough Councils Vision 2031 document which sets out how they plan to control growth across our beautiful town. We know expanding our town can be contentious but we have little choice, the more popular we become as a town the more people want to live and work here. So please have your say on the 2031 Vision document, find out more here.
I'm sure you're all aware that the election for our new Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner will be happening on 15th November this year. This government initiative to change the way the police are managed will be very different from the way the Police Authority and the Chief Constable have run the force up until now, the Suffolk Police Authority is being disbanded and the Police and Crime Commissioner will control the purse strings for the whole Suffolk Police force from March next year.
Please take the time to read the information leaflet from the prospective candidates and to turn out to vote on November 15th. Tim Passmore is the excellent Conservative candidate, and I'm sure you will want to support him, whatever your views about the changes, we need to make sure we have a Conservative for the first Police and Crime Commissioner in Suffolk.
Don't forget you can find out more by coming along and chatting to Tim at our launch on the 6th November.
We will be in touch soon with details of the events we have planned, in the meantime if you have any queries please contact Branch Chairman Robert Everitt on 01284 769000 or Branch Secretary Sarah Stamp on 01284 769360.
